Running a Script
Scripts can be opened and run in Script Editor and script applications can be run outside of Script Editor like any other OS X application. Some apps and tools, such as Automator and the systemwide script menu, can also run scripts.
Running a Script in Script Editor

Running a Script Application
To run a script application, double-click the script in the Finder, just like you would do to launch any other application. The script opens and begins running.

After you create and test a script, you can save it as an app and run it just like any other app. How to save a script as an app To browse the Script Editor User Guide, click Table of Contents at the top of the page.

When running a script app outside of Script Editor, you can’t view a list of the script’s events and results. To monitor this activity, open the app in Script Editor instead, run it, and check the Accessory View pane.

Script Editor User Guide
Best sport scores app. An app’s scripting dictionary displays the scripting vocabulary understood by an app or a scripting addition.
To find out what commands and objects you can use to control an app, use Script Editor to look at that app’s dictionary. The scripting dictionary of an app is organized into different suites. Most scriptable apps contain at least the standard suite. Other apps may have a variety of different suites of objects and commands available. An app’s dictionary may contain multiple languages—for example an app’s dictionary may include both AppleScript and JavaScript for Automation.

- Double-click the name of the app in the Library window.
- Click the Language pop-up menu, then choose a scripting language.
- Select a suite.
